Troubleshooting access code errors

If you see an error message when trying to redeem a CliftonStrengths access code, review these common causes and next steps.

Verify your code

Make sure you type the code exactly as it appears. Codes include both letters and numbers. If you see an “invalid” error message, double-check each character to confirm it matches your code.

You may have already redeemed the code or email invite without realizing it. Sign in to your Gallup Access account, and check your homepage for a Begin Assessment or Resume Assessment button. If you see either option, your access code has already been redeemed and you can begin or continue the assessment.

If your code came from a book

Each code in a Gallup book can be used only once. If your book was pre-owned, the code may have already been redeemed. You’ll see a “retracted or already been used” message in that case.

If you purchased a new book and your code isn’t working, contact Support and include:

  • The book title and format (physical or e-book)

  • Where and when it was purchased

  • A copy of your receipt (if available)

We will verify your purchase and may be able to provide a replacement code.

If your code came from an email

If you received your code or invitation via email, return to the original message and select the included link. If the link doesn’t work or you still receive an error, contact Support with:

  • The code or the email address used

  • The exact error message you received

“Retracted or already been used” message

If you see a “retracted or already been used” message, it can mean one of two things:

  • Retracted: The code distributor removed or disabled the code. If you received your code from someone else and can no longer access the assessment, contact the code distributor directly to request a new access code.

  • Already Been Used: The code has already been redeemed. If you were the one who used it, simply sign in to Gallup Access and look for a Begin Assessment or Resume Assessment button on your homepage to start or continue your assessment.

Six-digit codes

If your code is only six numbers long, it’s likely an account verification or sign-in code, not a CliftonStrengths access code. Access codes are alphanumeric and typically 10–16 characters long.

Still need help?

Contact Support and include as much detail as possible about your access code, where it came from, and the exact error message displayed.
